Knowing that neither of us have any debt I told her to ignore it, last week got another one from them saying she owed £6555.86 to the co-op bank and to contact them re: payment. We didn’t contact them. Today a phone call from them asking her how she would like to pay her debt even after she told them she didn’t have a debt and had never dealt with the co-op, but the person kept insisting that they had her name and date of birth so it must be her, I took the phone off her and told them that we don’t owe anyone, and for them to send some paperwork with her signature on it, and to stop bothering us. What do I do next if they contact her again. |

They need to send you paperwork with your wifes signature on it before they can even begin chasing the alleged debt. They need to send this along with the specifics of the debt, ie who theyre acting on behalf of, where the debt came from and more importantly when the debt is from. anything over 6 yrs and they cant chase you for it anyway. Theyre obviuosly just fishing, trying to get easy money. If they phone again, tell them to provide proof of the debt in writing or any further contact by them and you ll report them, under the Office of fair trading regulations, for harassment. Hope this helps. |

I’ve told her not to worry about it as we don’t owe anyone and it’s up to Cabot to show some documents of the debt, to who and when. Still doesn’t stop her worrying. |

My partner received a letter yesterday from a Detective agency, asking him to ring them to clarify some information for their client. The company was from Huddersfield and as at the moment we have a relative in Barnsley going through a few problems we thought it was to do with that and phoned. Only to find they were working for Global Debt Collectors! We thought ok this is just another scam so didn’t bother to ring Global, lo and behold a phone call this morning asking my partner to start making payments for a debt of £9,000 for something they couldn’t even provide a company for or what it was for when my partner asked who he was supposed to owe they said well you had the money you must know, well what does that tell you!. They want him to write to them and say he knows nothing of the debt, so I will get my “advice on legal letters” book out again well worth £13.00 and write a firm letter denying any knowledge of this debt and mentioning the OFT and the Harassment Act also the 1980 because the dates they say he owed is over 6 years about 14 actually. But I will not let him sign it as once they have his signature they could put it on anything these days. We had been through the same thing 2 years ago with Robinson Way saying my partner owed £12,000 you can imagine the shock they could not say what the debt was for or who with, he is not very good dealing with things like this so I took over I did some research and told him what to say the woman on the phone, he knew nothing about this and could they provide him with paperwork with his signature on we heard nothing back. He has just recently opened a new bank account surely if he owed this money the bank would have refused him they also gave him a substantial overdraft. They refused me and I own my house outright, but I do have a credit card debt of £1,000 I’m paying off!!! |

Rang them up and spoke to a lady called Lesley who was very pleasant to talk too, she asked for a photo copy of the wife‘s passport which has her signature on it, and if we could find something with our address at the time of the loan being taken out, which is hard to do as they are on about the year 2000 and we have moved twice since then. Outcome should be known shortly, but must gave Lesley her due, she was very helpful and I think realises that they have the wrong person, at least I hope they do. Will let you know the outcome. |

Feel sorry for the next person they pick on, but if you have nothing to hide tell them where to go. Thanks for the advice, great site really hope everyone has as good of a outcome as we have had. Good luck to you all... |
