As a result, over the course of nearly 2 years and numerous court appearances, she run up a massive bill which she foolishly paid for on credit cards and loans. She ended up owing roughly £40,000 and finally had to take out an IVA. Just as she was getting to grips with this, she was hit another bill for £5,000 by her solicitor. She cannot afford to pay this and cannot add it to her existing IVA. The solicitor is threatening legal action. At the same time, her ex owes her £20,000 from the house proceeds but so far has refused to pay despite a court order. The solicitor has offered to take on the case again to try and reclaim this money but will again charge a large fee for doing so. This is a crazy option as even if she wins and gets the £20,000 she will lose it all probably in legal costs. What is her best option? |
